Biography
Who Are
Houses in the Sky?
Pulsing energy, vintage audial aesthetics, and introspections into the inner heart and mind wrapped in infectiously catchy melody; these are but a few of the pillars that serve as the foundations of Houses in the Sky. Blending the grit of grunge with the dreamy vibes of the psychedelic, Houses in the Sky create a sound that embodies the spirited creative freedom of modern alternative acts alongside the raw energy of classic rock performers.
Houses in the Sky is Sierra Englehart on vocals, Nicki Alampiev on guitar, Justin Turns on drums, and Blake T. Harvey on bass. These four musicians began playing together after meeting at the Harrisburg Area Community College. Over time, as their early collaborative ideas transformed into fully fleshed out songs, their jam sessions too transformed into full live performances. As the group relocated to Lancaster, their early shows took place at local venues in the area, such as Phantom Power, a popular venue for artists of the nearby Millersville University, and Tellus360, one of the busiest bars in the city itself. Too powerful to be contained to the general Lancaster area, the band has since played throughout central Pennsylvania in places such as Harrisburg and Reading, and even towards the broader East Coast in DIY circuits in Philadelphia and Brooklyn.
Houses in the Sky released their debut EP, “Seasons Changing”, in fall 2021. This EP features the signature crowd favorite “Dunes”, which has since become a staple of their live show. Following this, the group released a follow up in summer 2022, a live session recorded at the Hidden Fortress in Philadelphia. This release gave a first listen at what would follow as the band’s first single, “Hostage”, a gritty headbanger. In August 2023, the band released “After Days”, the second single for their debut album, “Nobody Knows”, released on November 11th, 2023. With the space of a full LP as their canvas, Houses in the Sky broadens the scope of their sound more than ever before, experimenting with new sounds and further developing their established style. Energetic rockers like the shred-heavy “Third Street” and the sonically shifting “Looking Over” fade into slower and more contemplative tracks like “Burn Blue” and the twistedly romantic “Kristy with a K”, while the group goes deeper into the trenches than ever with heavier songs such as “Sun has Vanished” and “The Illusion”.
